A police officer has been taken to hospital after being injured during a police chase of a stolen vehicle.
An automatic number plate recognition device detected a vehicle marked as stolen around 8.35pm last night.
The vehicle was then tracked by CCTV before police were called to the scene.
Approached by the police, the suspects would have fled at full speed.
The suspects then allegedly performed alarming maneuvers including riding curbs, speeding and driving the wrong way on a dual carriageway in Richmond.
Police deliberately hit the vehicle with their vehicle to bring it to a halt near the roundabout in Hook, Chessington.
An officer was injured as a result of the pursuit and contact with the suspect’s vehicle.
He was taken to hospital with a neck injury.
The suspect’s vehicle was able to continue driving after being hit by officers and three men then pulled over and left the vehicle on Largewood Avenue.
They were quickly located and arrested.
A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, failing to stop and driving without a license or insurance.
A second suspect was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, failure to stop, dangerous driving, serious bodily injury with intent, driving without a license, driving without insurance and leaving equipped with objects allegedly intended for delinquency.
Another was arrested on suspicion of allowing himself to be transported in a stolen motor vehicle.
Kingston Police wrote in a statement on Facebook: “Police were called to an ANPR activation in Kingston last night June 9 at approximately 8.35pm.
“A vehicle marked as stolen has been detected.
“The vehicle was tracked by CCTV, and when local officers approached in their own vehicle, the suspect vehicle drove off at high speed.
“Roads and transport officers have been deployed to pursue.
“The suspect vehicle performed several dangerous maneuvers, including accelerating, going over curbs and driving the wrong way on a dueling roadway.
“Tactical contact has been made with the vehicle to stop it at the entrance near the roundabout in Hook, Chessington.
“Following the pursuit and contact with the suspect vehicle, an officer was taken to hospital with a neck injury.
“Unfortunately, the vehicle was able to proceed and three men egressed from the vehicle onto Largewood Avenue.
“All three were located shortly thereafter and all three men were arrested.
“One man was arrested for permitting to be transported in a stolen motor vehicle, a second man for driving under the influence of drugs, failing to stop, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
“The third man was arrested for motor vehicle theft, failure to stop, dangerous driving, grievous bodily harm with intent, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and gearing up.
“All three are currently in custody.”
