Operation PITTING, the evacuation of civilians from Afghanistan by the United Kingdom, began on August 14, 2021 as part of a multinational extraction of beneficiaries by respective country. Between the start of the operation and the final flight, more than 15,000 people were evacuated from Kabul by the RAF as part of a comprehensive evacuation of more than 122,000 people. Sgt Andy Livingstone cradled a two week old baby on an evacuation flight from Afghanistan because his mother was so exhausted. Wing Commander Calvin Bailey fondly describes the evacuation out of Afghanistan.
