Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Rajasthan (ACB) on Tuesday arrested the drug control officer, assistant drug controller and their middleman after they were allegedly caught accepting a bribe from 22,000 rupees in Udaipur. Drug Control Officer Dheeraj Sharma and Deputy Drug Controller Chetanya Prakash Panwar were demanding a bribe from a medical shop owner for not filing a complaint against him. Officials accused the medical store owner of discrepancies in keeping records of drugs sold at the store.
DG, ACB BL Soni said the complaint was verified under the supervision of ACB DIG, Udaipur Rajendra Prasad Goyal and ACB SP Dr Rajeev Pachar. When found genuine, a trap was set by a team led by ACB Inspector Harishchandra Singh.
“Chetanya Prakash Panwar and Dheeraj Sharma asked plaintiff ACB to go to the medical store of a certain Ankit Jain. Ankit worked as an intermediary for the two officials. He runs a medical store by the name of British Pharma in the Madhuban area of Udaipur. Officials asked the ACB Complainant to return the money to Ankit,” DG Soni said.
He added that the two officials also arrived at Ankit’s store when the plaintiff ACB was due to hand over the bribe amount. They were arrested along with the middleman and convicted under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. DG Soni said the accused men were being questioned.
